I won't be using an ''O'' ring on the drop weight pin. The seal on
the bottom is one of the ''block-V'' types. Several of the guys use them for
rotating shafts like hatch handles and motor swivels. They don't seem to have
any problems with them. Still, I don't like ANY shaft going through the hull.
This is the only exception, and I'd eliminate that too except as a back-up.
That's why the mechanism is isolated behind a valve. Should it be necessary to
drop the weight ( not good ) and the hydraulic release fails ( really not good )
I'll still have the option of doing it manually. The ''last resort '' mechanism
is on the bottom of the hull, and even if it leaks a little bit, The weight will
drop ( or the sub will rise off of it ) before much water enters the
sub.
For Dean...... The porta power hand pump is a good idea. I was thinking
more along the lines of a break pedal type release, so if I need to drop the
weight, I can stomp on the pedal master cylinder, and through a hydraulic
line, activate the slave cylinder to spin the pin and release the weight. I
don't think it will take that much pressure to move the pin, and a 1/4 turn on
the pin is all it takes. Frank D. Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year. |
