I like your plans they seem to be very complete so far.

The thruster is a good point to make a decision about the system that will 
be used. If you are thinking about using a premade thruster (Minn-Kota, 
etc.), the options are fewer.

It can be pretty expensive to test all the options. If you are considering 
building your own thrusters I would suggest trying a brushless motor. They 
save power while producing more hp. The sub controls (electronics) will be 
more expensive, but your power budget will go farther.

If you want to explore brushless motors, just search for "3 phase brushless 
dc motor".

The only other question I can come up with, what is the typical hp rating 
for the Minn-Kotas being used?

I don't know yet, this is the "detail" stuff.  What I am doing is
determining the concept and, then what it takes to do it.

You already have what I will start with, the K boat plans. Beyond that, I
will likely dissect a trolling motor, a well pump, and mine the ROV
groups,.... all for ideas. This along with various courses and texts. What
you see in the model is basic shapes, a cylinder, kort nozzle and, a prop
based on the size of the large Minn-Kotas.
