The most sucsesfull application of AIP today is in the Royal Swedish Navy. They operate a stirling motor fueled by liquid oxygen and fueloil.
 
It is posible to pruchace a 800 watt 12 volt batteri stirling gennerator called "Wispergen" It is low noise - like a refrigeator - and can be used to form the core of neuclear Psub. It consumes 600 gr. fuel pr hour - and consumes about 2.5 kg oxygen to do so. This is close to ten times as weight efficient as conventionel lead / acid batteries.
 
Only liquid oxygen gives the AIP consept meaning -
 
AIP is as high tech as neuclear propulsion - and about as dangerous to the sub - but yoou dont need strategic and political bad materials.

Just a thought, but there is always AIP.  Could it work for a psub?
 
A nuclear powered submarine, is just a modern application of steam power.  Nothing fancy about that.  The Royal Navy and the French Navy experimented with steam powered submarines in the early 20th century. It was not untill the USS Nautilus that steam powered took hold.  The major thing that happened was the replacing of how heat was generated.
