A nuclear powered submarine, is just a modern application of steam power. Nothing fancy about that. The Royal Navy and the French Navy experimented with steam powered submarines in the early 20th century. It was not untill the USS Nautilus that steam powered took hold. The major thing that happened was the replacing of how heat was generated.

New Battery audio: lots of power, no heat problems, high power transfer rate, they have working prototypes. The next best thing to nuclear power in my opinion.
