RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Convention Speaker
Jon,
I look forward to his perspective of escape and should compliment my
presentation.

A skimmer afloat is but a submarine, so poorly built it will not plunge.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Convention Speaker
Hello Psubbers,
I have made contact with one of the people involved in the Seaker-100
incident which occured in April 1990, in Michigan. Please see
http://www.psubs.org/accidents for detailed info if you are not familiar
with this incident.
This gentleman has expressed interest in joining us at the convention
and either speaking at the seminar, or providing the opportunity for
us to ask questions of him. He did however express concern as to how
he would be received by our group considering the sub suffered a
catastrophic failure that claimed the life of the other person on board.
I told him that he offered a unique opportunity to provide first hand
knowledge of being involved in such an incident, and his experience would
offer the rest of us an ability to discuss escape procedures from the
perspective of a real world incident instead of merely hypotheticals and
test simulations. I also told him we would not be there to criticize
in hindsight, but learn from their experiences so could better our own.
I have also invited the family of the non-survivor to the convention
although I don't expect them to accept due to travel and scheduling
issues.
I will keep you informed about this potential speaker.
Thanks,
Jon
