Joe, The tanks are aluminum with perforated baffles inside for support. They are mounted using nylon sleeves and washers to isolate them from the steel hull. I don't remember what gauge they are, but I'd think somewhere in the 10 gauge range for structure and sufficient material thickness for MIG welding. They'll be 6061 or something so they won't corrode (like the JSLs) and are painted for aesthetics, rather than protection. You could build them in steel, but they'd be heavier and need access ports for maintenance (like the old PC-9). All the Perry boats used stainless for this, but the 14 had 12" D X 5' L tanks originally, and Mike wanted the thing to have more lift, and massive surface stability, so he built what you see. Vance

The Minn Kotas are impressive!...I've seen enough now to stop worrying about thrusters.

Nice photos of PC 1401. Of real interest to me are the saddle tanks (appears to be welded sheet metal), and the forward view port.

From what I can see so far, for my boat, the fore and aft MBT's along with the fairings, can be standard mold / plug / glass construction. But the saddle tanks have a shape more conducive to sheet over frames.

So my question to you is, what gauge sheet do you suppose this is, and what should the interior surfaces be coated with? Once sealed, these would not be opened again.
