Hi,
In my past I was stationed aboard a fleet ballistic submarine (a 41 for freedom boat) and made thirteen deterent patrols. Even years later, I think back at how incredible that ship really was and how great my time aboard her was. I was so lucky. I have spent some twelve years researching a small passive sonar with a solidly mounted array. It can train around and listen and detect small pleasure craft and other acoustics such as fish and biologically produced sounds. It uses a fraction of the power required for depth sounders and can be easily built from easy to aquire components. I designed it as primarily a collision avoidance sonar, but am so impressed with the outcome that I will utilize it as the primary sonar system abard my under construction ambient sub. In 2004, an award was presented to a fellow submariner reguarding his sonar ideas...I would love to review his notes. I too would be willing to share my discoveries with anyone interested as it will open a whole new world to anyone willing to take the trip. On May 6th, I will complete the project that has competed for funds with the sub...A ten foot two staged rocket with video camera. David Bartsch
