RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Scouted Spots

George,

I was kidding about the barge, but it sure would be nice!  Definitely would not attempt Boynton Inlet with it, Palm Beach Inlet would be the only one feasible.

The inlet by boynton is a killer though. Down by ocean ridge, the thing is a pain in the royal rear end.

George,

Thanks!  I’ll look at these tonight.  Devil’s Den/Blue Grotto would probably be the ideal site with the best visibility and side swimming for other family members that attend.  The St. John’s current and I believe tannic water would be my second choice.  Tampa Bay has poor visibility from previous dive experience there and Lake Okeechobee visibility is nil (not great depth especially if the level is down).

A barge with a derrick and all the subs aboard off of Boynton Beach would be ideal…all we would have to worry about is towing the boats back south after being carried away by the current. J

Jay,

I scouted a couple of spots, and here they are and why I think they might do.

1. Palatka. True, it's kind of a ..uh ... well, "Quaint" BUT interesting and open area to put in and possibly a good dive site just north of the put in.

29 38' 37" N

81 37' 42" W

2. Blackwater... It's midway between Ocala and Daytonna, on the St. Johns. Min/Moderate current to contend with.. two sites north and south of the put in.

29 09'58" N

81 31'22" W

3. Devil's Den/Blue Grotto: Blue water, good diving. True it's got an overhead environment as well as an open water environment, but if the subs stay away from the overhead everything should be ok.

29 24' 13" N

82 28' 35" W

Theres also always tampa bay.. (I have no coordinates for that)

Or Lake OkeeChobee, though I wasn't able to get down there to dive, uh scout, how that looks or really see what kind of places you can put in at.
