RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Scouted Spots

Here is what I found with the marvel of satellite imagery, Internet search and uploading, and Garmin charting software.  Unfortunately Frappr doesn’t allow high resolution images, anyone interested in higher resolution images please contact me off line.

Both Palatka’s and Blackwater’s maximum depth occurs in areas where the river narrows so both current and boating traffic will probably be an issue

Palatka:  (29.64361° -81.62833°)   http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=3994230&myphotos=1   chart: http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=3995236&myphotos=1  There is a maximum of 40 ft. of water about a mile from the bridge (south) off of Devil’s Elbow.

Blackwater:  (29.16611° -81.52278°)   http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=3994201   chart:  http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=3995318  Maximum depth along this stretch of the river is about 24 ft.

Depth information not available for

Devil’s Den/Blue Grotto:  (29.403611° -82.476389°)   http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=3994220

Silver River:  (29.215878° -82.052890°)  http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=3994454&myphotos=1

Didn’t have sufficient information to localize a site along the Rainbow River:   (29.102173° -82.437395°)   http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=4005354&myphotos=1

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Scouted Spots

Jay,

I scouted a couple of spots, and here they are and why I think they might do.

1. Palatka. True, it's kind of a ..uh ... well, "Quaint" BUT interesting and open area to put in and possibly a good dive site just north of the put in.

29º 38' 37" N  81º 37' 42" W

2. Blackwater... It's midway between Ocala and Daytonna, on the St. Johns. Min/Moderate current to contend with.. two sites north and south of the put in.

29º 09'58" N  81º 31'22" W

3. Devil's Den/Blue Grotto: Blue water, good diving. True it's got an overhead environment as well as an open water environment, but if the subs stay away from the overhead everything should be ok.

29º 24' 13" N  82º 28' 35" W

Theres also always tampa bay.. (I have no coordinates for that)

Or Lake OkeeChobee, though I wasn't able to get down there to dive, uh scout, how that looks or really see what kind of places you can put in at.
