Used  both, liked blender, love sketchup... as far as I can tell the  
primary limitation of the free sketchup is in output to printers...  
so if you're doing the design work entirely on the computer and don't  
need hardcopy (screen resolution is fine), I very much recommenced it.

And, of course, if you get totally hooked (like I did) you can buy  
the full version and print out all your designs then.
