In the 1978 to 1980 timeframe, visited this submersible many times in a
warehouse at what use to be the Boston Navy Yard in South
Boston. Early on, it had been just completed but they were
having difficulties with stability and the great weight of the unit. It
also took a lot of power to move it through the water due to it large
cross-sectional area and large skin surface. In the same warehouse was
the recently discussed Asherah which
was in need of a battery replacement that was going to be a major effort due to
the original battery having been foamed in with syntactic foam.
