I don't think boredom would be an issue for
me! I'd just be hoping I'd make it the whole way across with out some
problem. Maybe travel at 10 - 20' deep with a surface boat keeping an eye
on me or travel on surface, and do it in the morning when it's really glassy
before the wind kicks up. Then stay over night and come back the next
morning. Camp on the island or on a boat. Might have to do a battery
charge overnight !

I don't see anything bending on that hatch, that
flat area will have a "o" ring groove cut in it and will lie flat on a matching
"land" on the conning tower and seal with the o ring. I think that is
a pretty standard hatch design, probably over kill. I could
still use it.
