Chuck forgot this.. A factory which can make windmill tubes of
different
sizes can also make a submarine hull to your exact subs
specifications.
Means no need to compromize that. And will be to difficult to get the
ribs in if you use a windmill pipe with flanges on both ends..
The only thing a windmill tube is usefull for is a windmill. And the
only thing a propane tank is good for is a propane tank.. And the only
thing a autoclave is good for is... ;-)
The best and cheapest way is to order the endcaps, the cylinders,
bulkheads and the ribs etc. seperatly and according to your
drawings and
assamble it yourself. And build a roller table. If you can not weld -
make just the small tack welds to hold all parts in place and call a
prof.welder..
And Peter has 3D-Cad drawings of UC3 - he just change his mind
about the
design.. A Double Hull WWII concept needs more building time and
attention than a single tube modern hull. And a school-drawing-
board is
a very clever idear for every psub building garage.. :-)

Are the diameter, thickness, and specific steel type for those
windmill tubes available?
I would enjoy plugging those figures into the spreadsheet that was
sent around earlier to see the crush depth figures for a submarine
made from windmill tubes--with appropriate bracing of course.
UC-3 looks very very cool...
I find it interesting to compare the detailed CAD drawings of the
Euronaut to the chalk sketch of UC-3... Surely Peter has more
drawings and calculations than that?
If not, I cannot disparage the design methodology of a man who has
already built two working submarines and has started on his third!

Hi Bill look yourself.. the flange is about 4-5 inch strong high

steel. More than a sub need. Yes - windmill baseshafts will work.

Hi Carsten.
What did the author (at the site you sent below) mean when he said
...."The subs is at this point made from the same tubes and the
tower of
windmills. This makes it a
VERY solid shape."
"tubes and towers of windwills"? Are windmills where Peter Madsen
lives
(Denmark) made out of thick steel tubes and towers sufficient as
external pressure vessels for
submarines?
Bill.
