RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] hull test

After you've sucked out 14.7psi, you've got a perfect vaccum. Internal pressure is zero, there
is nothing (with in the realm of current physics) else that could be sucked out to create a higher
pressure difference. It's not possible go below 0 psi.

Air pressure is really air molecules bumping into something (for example the walls of a pressure
vessel), the more air molecules, the more bumping and the more force excerted on the walls of the
pressure. PSI is a measurement of this force being excerted. Once all the air molicules have
been sucked out and there is nothing bumping around the force excerted will be zero. It's not
possible further reduce the internal pressure once there are no air molecules.

Note that we are talking about absolute pressure and not "gauge" pressure. With "gauge" pressure
you're just meassuring the pressuse difference and can have reading below 0 psi (this is all
to do with the gauge design and calibration).

Hope that helps.

Ian.

i think im missing something here, why can i test it only to 1 atm? whycant i suck 300 psi out of the hull? i think you guys know something idont, please explain it to me.Thanks.

Yes, thats a pity; youcan only test it to a virtual 10 meter.

However....... It is avery good leak test.
