If you could switch battery banks mechanically
it would be better. Maybe a rotary switch sealed in a pod.
They're made for campers and the like that have two battery
setups. Automotive type places should be able to get them for
you.

Hi - marine supply stores carry rotary switches for
exactly this purpose.
The one caution with these switches: They do not
electronically protect against overload from the charging system.
If the switch is used while the engine, and hence
the charging system, is running, your charging system will fry.
All that current and no place to go. Engine
turned off, battery bank selected, engine on.
