There are some websites on homebuilt hydrophones. I would have to do a search to find them.
 
Government surplus places may have some. Hydrophones are used most often to locate military submarines underwater.

I've been looking for a reasonably-priced submersible microphone
for many years. If you can find that, Dan, I'd like to buy a few of
them, too.

Circuit design is something I haven't done in years, so I'll need
a source of amplifiers.
