Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Re: hsla steels, trucated cones, X-Plane

100m is the number I have been considering. Not deep enough to require materials more expensive than a516. In fact owning and operating a submarine isn't really my main interest. My interest is in building a replica diving boat. I like to build things. The boat will mostly be optimized for travel on the surface. That said, collision and corrosion damage are my greatest concerns. The way it is looking, I will be having to add a lot of weight if my hull is simply strong enough for the depths I wish. My interest in the navy steels is contingent on them being not more than twice that of the a516 grade 70 and the a588 (which was about 1/3 more) that I have already priced with a fabricator.

How deep are you wanting to dive?

Is the Navy is moving to HSLA 80 and 100 and should one expect that these are or will be included in the standards? Perhaps when I query suppliers/fabricators I will find that the price makes this a moot issue.

Can anyone recommend software or speadsheet calculations for evaluating truncated cone sections?

Is there an "X-Plane" for subs?
