[PSUBS-MAILIST] My Last Posting... Thanks to all!
To all P-subbers,
I hope that all of you enjoy designing and building your own subs. Certainly
all of you can do as you wish as all of us are free-willed entities.
My input on the VBT's is not from a narrow viewpoint of view, neither it is
from my originality or the result of a company made dictionary as some may
indicate in their comments. Many of you who have Busby's book and other
reference works such as the ABS rules, Det Norske Veritas Rules, LLoyds
Registry Rules, etc. etc.; understand, accept, and appreciate the value,
wisdom and safety of a VBT system, and will see that this is an
industry-wide accepted concept. It is the viewpoint of an entire industry,
and the engineering community in general, not a group of people in cohoots
in a company trying to make their own internal lingo to separate themselves
from the World.
If VBT's had no value as some may infer, they would not even be mentioned in
the engineering books. Indeed, many subs which are intended for shallow
water service do have VBT's as as integral part of their ballast and trim
system, and it is a requirement for their safe operation.
Sure, you don't need 72 hours of life support in your subs, and you don't
need to have O2 and CO2 monitors, and you don't need to have thermal
blankets, emergency food, emergency drinking water, emergency air, emergency
Oxygen, extra batteries, spare light bulbs, or a toolkit to dive a sub. It's
all deadweight right? After all, all they do is take extra space and cost a
lot of money, it's a hassle to deal with, and it just doen't make sense to
you .... until the day you see yourself helplessly entangled in the bottom
by a 50 lb test fishing line that you didn't see.
Last time I checked, I didn't have the idea market cornered. VBT's are not
my idea, they are the result of over a 100 years of trial and error at the
expense of human lives. If some want to reject the true value of a solid,
time-tested and proven concept to save money, because in their own wisdom
they reason that they don't need it; that is their God given choice! More
power to them! Great ideas are born out of both ignorance and knowledge,
ignorance just takes more lives with it as it builds knowledge. Good and bad
ideas prove themselves by virtue of their design throughout the test of
time. VBT's have passed the test with flying colors!
I am not trying to place myself above anyone here. Neither I intend to
diminish an "experienced" member's credibility as it is being stated by
some. If the postings are read chronologically, please notice whose
credibility was "diminished" first.
I do intend to instill safety, and I am, and will always be as
straight-forward as I can be with all. Some can deal with that, and some
don't. If I am correct, this is how this country was made, by people
corageous enough to speak their mind boldly without fear of of the
repercussions.
As a last comment, I want to express my gratitude to those who want to
learn, and to be safe. To you, my hat goes off to you. This will be my last
unsolicited comment on this site. I will keep monitoring the postings, but
will restrain from commenting again.
Farewell and happy diving. I thank all for your sincere comments.
Kindest Regards,
Hugo Marrero
