Hi All, Found a great source of
stainless steel for thru hull fittings; stainless steel prop shafts,
they can many times be found at boat yards and are sometimes in a junk pile
because they've been bent or damaged. I've just got done cutting one up
into little pieces. I also recieved my Parker "O" ring cataloge and it is
very informitive, they say the best "o" ring material for water is ethylene
propylene rubber but the lubrication recommended is silicone oil, glycerin or
ethylene glycol since petroleum lubricants will degrade the ethylene
propylene. Parker also has a CD that is free that can help you
design your "o" ring application.
Note: Parker is the company that supplied the "o" rings for the space
suttle that blowed up. But maybe nasa didn't check the specs?
