Glass mat as in stuff similar to what is cut into strips to be used in
Fiberglass applications?

Should be pretty easy to find.. Whether or not that is too porous, or
whether it comes in different grades I don't know...

BTW - Dino.. re: your other brainstorms re: my idea of a vertically oriented
sub...  Almost what I had in mind... Instead of a tube with arms, the entire
operators body enclosed within the 26" pressure hull cylinder like you
mentioned you were going to use... Kind of like that BOB unit where the
operator stands up or sits on a bike seat equivalent, but is completely
contained at 1 ATM in the pressure hull...

Kinda like your idea of the double hull ballast, coffin tow for delivery to
dive site, then flood ballast to vertically orient the sub... maybe add
inflateable reuseable / repackable gas sacks near top for emergency surface
and or / bouyancy control?

That way a half sperical lexan or plexi endcap on the top would allow a near
full 360 deg FOV with no reliance on mechanics or electronics of any sort
other than the lights required below depths where there is limited or no
sunlight or murky water conditions... might have to get tricky with the
downward viewing though...
