Well, just incase you'd really do it, there is a fair bit
of software out there for linux that is useful to submarine
design.
- For 3d work I use ayam3d (very close to Maya).
- For 2d cad work I use QCad (pretty standard cad package
with dxf support).
- Gnumeric can open and use the hull calc speadsheet.
- I use a couple of different packages for math, mainly
rlab these days (kind of like matlab, I think).
- For email I really like Sylpheed for email.
All of the above are open source.
I'm also looking for a good open source FEM/FEA
program that can (or can be adapted to) run on a
cluster of two or computers.
Open source sonar? Sure we've got that too, checkout
the Hasas project at http://hasas.sourceforge.net/overview.html
Have fun,
Ian.
