Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Re:SUBSAFE
Ray,
The thing I love about the ABS is I'm not restricted by it. I can
experiment with a freedom not available to those governed by regulations.
Without that freedom I might never have built the NAUTILUS MINISUB, nor some
of the projects I'm presently working on. I don't want to lose that
freedom; and in keeping with the major theme of this thread, as long as we
all continue to exercise common sense, I probably won't.
My concern is that what starts as the PSUB group's "official spec" may one
day become codified as enforceable regulations restricting the actions of
people whose ability to operate successfully beyond such general parameters
is already proven. No more hot rods, no more choppers, no more BIONIC
DOLPHIN. We'll all be driving Vespas. It's happened before.
At the start of this thread, my words were a plea to the inexperienced for
caution and common sense; that's all. I agree there is a need to
disseminate reliable information about homebuilt submarines; but I think you
need to be careful how you might do it, lest someone take your book away
from you and beat the freedom out of us with it in the future.
Having expressed my initial concerns, I have a question: "Who will organize
and edit your book?"
Pat
