Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Mould release wax question...

Hi John,

Yes, that helps a lot.  Supply can be a real problem in this neck of the woods, and I'm always looking for way to keep costs down.

Lately what I've been making are small, complex decorative parts for a 1:1 scale replica of Captain Nemo's diving helmet; thus, the methods used.  But the next thing I'll be doing along these lines are the salon window fairings for the NAUTILUS MINISUB; much larger and less detailed than my present project.  I have made wooden forms and had planned to hammer the fairing skins out of sheet metal; but I can see where the "mud method" you guys have described will be a lot better, so I'm going to take a shot at that.  I will video the work in stages and can post digetized stills on the PSUBS picture exchange if anyone's interested.

Many mahalos,

Pat in mid-Pacific

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Mould release wax question...

Hello Dan and Pat:

Thanks for the helpful hints of mould making. Very interesting stuff. Pat you asked about a cheap source of wax and I personally have found "Carnauba" car wax works very well. I made moulds for my ROV's rear tail cone thruster fairing and used Carnauba wax with and without commercial mould release. I found it work just fine with the wax alone.

Hope that helps?
