[PSUBS-MAILIST] our concrete(semi)submarin

Hi

I'd just put some pictures in the web of our concrete submarine project and
thought you might be interested in it thought the pictures are more of
private nature and for my team and not for documentation. But I think you
can still see some of the highlights.
We are building this sub for the 9. annual concrete canoe race in Germany
that will be held in June this year.
The sub is not a 1atm submarine since we got no experience with submarines
and are all very scared of the pure thought of being caught in it. But it
will still be a dry sub. The sub is also a extreme low budged project and a
lot is just improvised.
The model you can see on some of the first pictures was an old design
concept and is now no longer relevant. I don't have the new sketches here so
I cant post them right now and I don't think an FEM calculation that I did
will help you guys very much but I'd still put one screenshot in between the
pictures (it shows one of the moment's [Mx] of my elements).
Most of the sub will be in concrete since it is a concrete contest. The
concrete will be reinforced with fiber in the thinner parts but I hope we
will also have the opportunity to put some real steel rebars down in the
baseplate.
The pictures you can see show mostly the formwork for the concrete form. On
Friday we are going to pure the concrete over this form and we will see what
happens.
On some point I will have to write an construction report and once this it
done I will post it here (even if translating it to English will mean some
extra work).

And wee still have some urgend problems that are not solved yet.

1. the sub has to be human powered, so we will try to build some pedaling
propulsion but we don't know how up to now

2. how about board radio ? I want to use CB radio and just hope that it will
carry out of the water but I don't know about that and I definatly want some
means of communication with the crew aboard

3. where to put the ships screw

but I'm confident we will solve them

so long

Betreff: [PSUBS-MAILIST] concrete Submersible ?

hi,

My Name is Marko Thiele and I'm new to this mailinglist. I just thought to
introduce myself. I'm from Germany and an structural engineering student at
the Dresden University of Technology.
The following question I got for you folks might not sound very smart, but
I'm serious and hope for an serious answer.
So here it is.....

does anyone of you know if anyone has ever attempted to build a Submersible,
Submarine or similar out of concrete ?
(yes, I mean indeed this rock like material)

If anyone knows something about this, or thinks he knows that this has never
been done, I would love to here from him.

 so long...
