RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Viewport design
I can think of 2 options:
a)
Locate a copy of the book "Acrylic Plastic Viewports" by Jerry Stachiw (see
PSUBS references). Unfortunately this is next to impossible. Else you can go to
Jerry's web page, www.hydroports.com,
and order from a ton of reports. I have no idea what the cost of this is,
although I'm sure the information is top notch.
b) Go
to the ASME web page and buy the "PVHO" publication (Pressure Vessels for Human
Occupancy). It costs a hundred something bucks, but its worth every penny. I've
spent money on every conceivable sub-related thing, but these have to be the
most worthwhile bucks of the lot. Its pretty much a viewport cook-book, based
largely on Stachiw's research.
In
either case, you'll then have to either make the ports yourself of have someone
make them for you. Please, only use someone who makes viewports for subs. This
is one area where the end product might look great but have hidden problems
(e.g., incorrect material, improper annealing, etc.)

making typical circular viewports-flat in cross section and wanted to look at
various methods of gasket/ o-ring design
