[PSUBS-MAILIST] Calculating frictional resistance
I found yet another source. I have a copy of the chapter on design
in "The Submarine Torpedo Boat," by Alan Hoar (published in 1917).
A table of frictional coefficients for ships of lengths from 8 feet to
600 feet is included. I'm translating into Visual Basic the
"independant
method" of calculating resistance.
In the book are such gems as how to calculate propeler size and
shape, extapolating horsepower and drag data from paraffin models.
Much of the math concerns surfaced boats. At the time Hoar published,
there was a differentiation between "submersibles" and "submarines."
As I recall, submerged submarines don't create waves, so I'm not
worried about that.
I'll announce completion. No promises beyond "I'll follow the
math in the book." It should work for World War I boats, at the
very least.
This is as much fun as dating blondes. Well, maybe ...
