"Hi Pat, I don't know if you'd be interested at all but I have some pretty
good video footage of my submarine racing,"

Yes, absolutely! It'd be great for the segment on wetsubs! My computer
editing system digests Video 8mm or HI-8mm best; I can transfer VHS, but
there's a slight signal loss. Stills are good, too: either scans sent by
Email or paper prints sent by snail mail will do. I'll contact you off the
message boards with more information.

"including the run where our propeller collapsed (whoops! fortunately we had
a backup!) complete with the director saying (into his underwater mike)
something along the lines of "hmm, UBC seems to be going much slower than
usual in this run." Although we were never in any danger, it was quite a
shock when it happened."

Sounds great! Can't wait to see it!

"It also goes to show the value of testing everything backwards and
forwards. Quite literally. We had tested the propeller a number of times
and put it on backwards every time. When we finally put it on forwards it
folded up like a piece of tinfoil. Hehe, live and learn! I also say that
in an ideal world, everyone should build nice safe wet subs before moving on
to the real thing so that they can experience that sort of thing in relative
safety."

Reminds me of the first time I submerged the Nautilus: with the hatch
misaligned on the seal and the forward emergency ballast valves open instead
of closed. OOOOPS! ;-)

"BTW we are putting a lot more effort into propeller design (and strength)
this year. Wade"

I know what you mean! And you can bet I now pay less attention to dockside
spectators, and a lot closer attention to detail in my pre-float checklist
these days, too!

Anyway, I'll be sending you an E about the video. Glad to have you aboard.
Thank you!

VBR,

Pat
