Hey Ken,
The oil-filled motors I've seen were all brushless DC. The techs at Minn
Kota told me their motors will run even if flooded, but will eat the brushes
pretty quickly. Makes me wonder if the same might be true with oil as it is
with water? I don't know for sure: balanced pressure-compensation seemed
like the way to go for me. Like you, I found a SCUBA regulator did the
trick pretty easily.
