The guy who built the VASH used to cruise around on the surface (with the
canopy sealed) for about 45 minutes before he started feeling dizzy. That's
a really small volume of air he was breathing.

The trick is to try it a few times with the sub in your garage, with
someone standing outside watching you through the portholes. Put a few CO2
and O2 meters in, and watch what happens.

Personally, I think the cost of adding a simple soda scrubber with a fan
would be insignificant compared to the rest of the sub, and it would give
you much better life support possibilities...
