Shootin-the-bull for what it's worth.
Psubbers:
A little about my background
if interested, otherwise delete and move on.
I'am 42 years old. I got married when I was 17 years
old. The first half of my adult life was spent working different jobs
including:
rough framing carpenter, constructing laminate tables and
countertops, digging graves, repairing asphalt roads, driving trucks, reading
water meters, but for the most part(11 years); setup and operate grinders.
Grinders included:
Van Norman 2c and 3c as well as surface, through, and
cylindrical Cincinatti Malicron. Tolerances held from nominal were
routinely + or - .0001 with at least 5 lobes. I definently have experience
in reading prints and the appreciation for the manual dexterity required to
dress wheels needed for precision grinding. Sadly, this type of
talent is no longer in demand with the widespread use of (Citizen) CNC
lathes. They are able to hold very close tolerances provided they have
precision bar stock.
Widespread layoffs occurred in the mid '80's because of the
influx of cheap Japanese steel products including precision barstock. I
found myself out of work, as did many other Steelworkers.
I went back to school to get my GED, then a B.S in
Social Work, attended O.U. in Athens, OH. for a Masters in Criminology and the
study of deviance. I'am now a Licensed Social Worker in the mental health
field.
Obviously I'am no longer a machinist. I study, help, and
routinely perform diagnostic assessments on people who have major problems
functioning on a daily basis. Still, I have that scientific/engineering
curiosity from my salad days that forces me to dwell on things more objective
and far less asthetic. I enjoy peeking in on your comments and
ideas. I hope I can someday build my own personal submersible
TTYL,
