When I suggested the light-controlled exterior equipment to someone
in about '76, he giggled. Really nervously. I'd called the US Navy's
office
that was, at the time, responsible for connectors. Optical control was
Top Secret. Oh, well. I probably have a FBI file because of those
calls.

How does one built that bus or manifold? How do you get several
pairs of cables sealed in one penetration?
I'd wondered about making an electrical penetration that was mushroomed
on either side of the hull. A gasket of insulation would be on either
side of
the hull, separating it from any other conductor. The fittings on both
sides
would be flush and latched around the mushroom, to provide a penetration
which was, structurally, a part of the hull.
