A 1.25" thicken of glass "should" be able to withstand incredible pressure,
according to the curators at the Corning Inc "Museum" Of Glass."  However,
for deep water pressure applications, glass ports are generally specially
molded to size.  Shaping a pane that thick sounds like more work than
shelling out for acrylic...
