Hi Stan,
This is what I was thinking as well. Use the dead space as efficiently as possible by design. You might put the O2 tanks, ballast, thrusters, and whatever else in this space. My first dreamstate psub design was in the shape of a stingray. I actually had waterjet thruster tunnels placed in the wings. I have since dumped that design though due to technical limitations...  :-(
