Be Careful Please...
To the PSUBS Group,
I read a lot of traffic on the PSUBS group. A lot of it is centered
around viewports, the type of materials and the procedures for construction
etc. This is such a critical issue and a dangerous one to be making any
kind of mistakes with. The recomended approach is to hire a professional
structural engineer with expertise in such areas. A book that has a lot of
data on viewport design you might want as a reference in this procedure is:
"ACRYLIC PLASTIC VIEWPORTS" by Jerry D. Stachiw
Published by Marcel Dekker, Inc.
270 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016
The copyright on my edition is 1982. There may be later versions.
Stachiw was at one time affiliated with the Naval Ocean Systems Center in
San Diego, CA.
If your effort can not find a good engineering foundation for the design of
a window I personally would be very hesitant to employ the idea. I am not
an expert on window design and do not claim to be. However I elected to
follow known practices in my efforts on The Vindicator. So far they have
paid off for me.
