Re: New Guy
Hello to all;
I've been silently observing the discussions here, and it's time I introduce
myself to you all. Unfortunately, it seems that the level of knowledge
exceeds my own in many areas of discussion, so I haven't felt I've had
anything valuable to contribute so far.
I'm presently building a two-man ambient pressure dry sub of my own design.
The discussions on safety were of particular interest to me. Redundancy is
essential, of course, and I've designed redundancy throughout... even in
having two hatches. It's fiberglass, and I'm currently constructing the
plug.
Personally, I'm interested in electrical systems. Safety considerations here
are paramount, and I'm personally less than expert. For example, I assume
lower voltage is safer, but is this true? Also, are there suppliers for
things like watertight connectors? I've seen oil-immersed wiring systems,
but what type of oil is used?
Also, immersible batteries. I've seen the battery packs used on Cousteau's
Soucoup. Is this still considered state of the art for lead-acid battery
submersion? Anybody out there have any information?
I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. If any other sub nuts live nearby,
please drop me a line at <A HREF="mailto:sfreihof@aol.com">sfreihof@aol.com</
A> . I'd like to get together with you, compare notes, and share ideas.
