Be sure to visit the Submarine museum in Gosport, near Portsmouth, on the south coast.  
They have a replica "Turtle" and an X-craft from WWII.  You can take the train, can walk 
to the ferry to take you across the harbour.  I recall it was about a 10 minute walk 
from there.
