Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] ptfe V Thread Sealant

Hi Jon,

No, its not O2 dont worry.  Its HP air.

Yes, suspect your correct and either will be ok.

Was just interested to hear any opinions.

Thanks
James

Just to be clear, you are talking about HP air for blowing ballast and not your O2 lines, correct?  If so, my choice would be teflon tape.  The loctite 567 is going to seal and "lock" the fittings which is overkill for tapered threads.  Fitted correctly, tapered threads are not going to come apart unintentionally.  However, it sounds like either product will work for the application and they likely only reference both to provide a choice.

Hi Jim,

I was all set to use thread seal (Loctite 567) as thats what it says in the instructions and thats what i always thought was correct for taper threads.  Where the seal is made on the thread.  But confusingly the same instructions also say to seal the same type of joint with ptfe, hence my question.  I'll do a bit more googling and maybe come up with something.

James
