Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Deck

Hi Vance\Alec,

Yes, good point with the fire risk.  I investigated various plastics and was very happy when i found the perfect material......either Peek or PTFE which are both super fire resistant and self extinguishing.  Then i looked at the price.  I'd be better off making my deck from gold.  Adds weight at the bottom, softish on the knees, adds bling and is probably cheaper.....

Anyway, im going to make it from wood and coat it with this fire retardent coating which looks pretty good.

As far as the 20,000 leagues look goes, i could always use this stuff on my Walnut Dashboard as well.....

I don't put flammables in the boat. Diamond plate is too painful for kneeling or butt scooting. I like flat plate aluminum (5000 or 6000 series) with non-skid tape or flexible, fire resistant mats.

In Snoopy’s case I used a thick plastic sheet.  It’s an inch thick if I remember right, but could probably be a little less without any problem. It’ll never rot nor varnish, although it won’t work if you wanted to combine with antique brass gauges and go for the 20,000 Leagues look! Or how about aluminum diamond plate?

Hi All,

What have people made their internal deck flooring out of?  Just plywood?  Or anything better?  Im going to make mine this weekend out of marine plywood and paint it, unless anyone has any better ideas.

Kind Regards

James
