Re: RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] News from Montreal Sea Scouts
Hello Thierry
Thought I'd take the opportunity to say hello from one Scout leader to another. I've been following this list for a good few years now and was interested when you posted your plans with regards to the sub last year. I couldn't help thinking that the paperwork involved in taking scouts, cubs or beavers in a submersible would probably make building or refurbishing a sub seem easy by comparison, but maybe your rules and insurances are a bit less restrictive than ours.
I am an assistant Beaver scout leader at 82nd Sheffield in England and have been working on an ROV and 1-man wet sub for the last couple of years, on and off.
I'm just getting back into my underwater interests after a break and have decided to get my homebuilt ROV operational for the annual watersports weekend, Splashdown held in July in Sheffield, for Scouts and Guides from a number of different local districts. The plan is to get the ROV working and let the kids control it, maybe to find a number of underwater objects in a small area of the lake. I'm using the MATE introduction to underwater vehicles course notes as a guide. I was also thinking of maybe doing a bit of a display, possibly with the wet sub , have to see how much time I have, as I'm also quartermaster for our group and I have a dinghy to fix up for use, 4 sailboards and a dozen canoes to get ready and certified for the watersports season.
Anyway it was good to read about your ideas and maybe we can talk off list about incorporating underwater and surface ideas into Scouting
Regards Simon
