The March issue of Popular Science has an article on
Sea Stalker, an AUV that can remain at sea for several
months. It uses an oil bladder and pump to change buoyancy and slides the
batteries fore and aft to alter pitch. It has to surface to communicate
via satellite with scientists, but communicates acoustically under water with
another unit.
