Also, here is the equation that gives you the maximum range of vision
(i.e. the number of nautical miles to the horizon) when the elevation of
the eyes above sea level is measured using inches:

Range = 1.144 * SQRT( elevation / 12 )

I'm sorry that I had forgotten about those of you who still go metric,
inch by inch... :)
