Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Conical bowdome seat

Hi,

I also remember reading in the hand book that conical seated
view ports will rotate in the seat as pressure is increasing.
This might damage the gasket.

Cheers,
  Ian.

Emile,
The conical seat requires a very precise fit. Properly fabricated, the o-ring manages the viewport seal very nicely. A gasket would have to carry tons of force, considering the square area on an arc segment viewport. All the calculations I have ever seen have to do with acrylic to metal.

Hi,

For the new bigger bowdome of eurosub we use a
conical seat

In my opinion is it a good idea to have a flat rubber
gasket between the acrylic and the metal .This for sealing and avoid stresses in
case of an imperfect surface .

In the “handbook of acrylics” this is
never mentioned. Why is this not done; too high surface pressure, sliding??

Hope you can help.

Regards, Emile
