Alan, Aircraft altimeter are adjustable.
Adjust them to the half of the scale to zero (like an airfield in 16.000feet high..)
and it works in both directions..
I would adjust mine Mig15 Altimter to 2000 meter high.
So it indicate - 2000 up to + 8000 meter.
I have no idea if you can do the same with a skydiver altimeter.
