I have an article about this somewhere...

However, I think the use of the "yuloh" is more advanced (sophisticated)
than the western world's sculling.

The traditional dhows was often propelled using a long yuloh(?), by a man
(or men) alternatively jumping back and fro between two platforms, with
these platforms being ingeniously linked (mechanically connected) to this
large oar-thing.

I will try to locate this paper... but it may take awhile ;)
