My two cents......The slow speed of a psub is going to be hard to determine
and due to currents, turns, movements up-and-down, and throttle/rudder
adjustments, the "actual" speed you're traveling at any given time would be
difficult to gage accurately.
Would it be possible to use the bottom "fish finder" sonar and
record your positions continuously relative to a point on the bottom
?
With this info recorded on a lap top, and a "base" reference of where you
started, could it be possible to show where you had traveled to and how long it
took to get there ?
I bet one of the computer savy guys like Cliff could adapt a program to
tell you where you are and how fast you were going.
It might take a side scan sonar and/or a gyro compass tied in so the system
would be able to "map" where you've been.
