Hi David,
If you are in any current they are inaccurate anyway.
You can be in a yatch in a wind with the speedo ticking
along flat out, but be going backward because of the current.
I've seen devices on robotics sites for measuring distance
but they would only be good on the sea floor & they were expensive.

Can anyone describe how a speedo speed indicator system works and would such a system be suitable for small submarines? Is'nt such a system deployed on the R-300 Cliff?
