Jens, I had at one time a 500 gallon propane tank I was someday going to turn into a submarine. To remove this smell I poured in a 50/50 mixture of plain bleach and water. After several applications and draining, most of this odor was gone and was replaced with a clean bleach small. This bleach smell can be done away with by then giving this a good coating of paint and plenty of fresh air. Hope this helps!
