What's the advantage of having the reel travel with the buoy instead of remaining with the sub and unreeling from there? Guesses: 1. Gets it out of the way of a grappling device coming down the buoy line. 2. Stabilizes the buoy when it's floating on the surface. 3. Line markings on the cable indicate exact depth of the sub when pulled taut by surface personnel. Am I missing something more significant? Subject: RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Distress buoy Hi Frank, Another good idea. 500 ft of SS wire would need a
fairly good sized buoy to lift it all. I think I will go with 5mm Spectra
rope. I have only about 9 kgs of lift. Floating line might be the answer. Regds,

look. It's like most things, when fabrication actually happens, things change. Frank D.
