RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] chiller problem

Frank,

I knew it would be simple! I'll shop around. The PVC solution sounds the easiest and cheapest to find. I want to use components available to anyone anywhere as I'm sure if this idea pans out more people will want to make them. I could do this but the cost of shipping them would be prohibitive.

                                                                                                                                                                                     Thanks again Frank!

Hi David. A "bulkhead" fitting is easy to get. It is just a threaded nipple with a couple rubber washers and a "nut" that tightens down with the barrier in between. The simplest ones are PVC or nylon and good for your project. The higher pressure applications use brass, and top-of-the-line uses stainless.
To picture it......imagine the flapper valve on your toilet tank. That is a "bulkhead" fitting where the whole assembly penetrates the water tank.
Most large hardware stores will have some type of these. I've seen them with "barb" fitting ends so a simple hose and clamp can be attached.
They generally run about 2 or 3 dollars in a 3/4 inch size. They're not much good at high pressure applications like a pressure vessel, but with a container filled with liquid at room pressure, and any higher pressure is restricted to inside the fitting, they work fine.
