Hi David. A "bulkhead" fitting is easy to get. It is just a threaded nipple
with a couple rubber washers and a "nut" that tightens down with the barrier in
between. The simplest ones are PVC or nylon and good for your project. The
higher pressure applications use brass, and top-of-the-line uses
stainless.
To picture it......imagine the flapper valve on your toilet tank. That is a
"bulkhead" fitting where the whole assembly penetrates the water tank.
Most large hardware stores will have some type of these. I've seen them
with "barb" fitting ends so a simple hose and clamp can be attached.
They generally run about 2 or 3 dollars in a 3/4 inch size. They're not
much good at high pressure applications like a pressure vessel, but with a
container filled with liquid at room pressure, and any higher pressure is
restricted to inside the fitting, they work fine.
